Canyonville Academy Alumnus Chosen From Stony Brook as Millennium Fellow!

Record Number Applied To United Nations Group Alexandra (Sasha) Eck, 2015 Canyonville Academy alumnus, was one of the few chosen young leaders from a record number of applications (7,025) from over 1,209 campuses of 135 nations. Eleven students from Stony Brook University are excited to be a part of something so innovative along with the opportunity pursue their passions. Stony Brook reports that they are incredibly proud of their students who were selected to be Millennium Fellows. We are incredibly proud of our students who were selected to be Millennium Fellows and who are seeking to creative positive change in their communities. The selective Millennium Fellowship was launched in 2018. This semester-long leadership development program is based on students lead leadership for sustainable development-related projects that advance the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in their communities. This Sustainable Development Goals is a part of the United Nations (UN) As a Millennium Fellows, students will participate in a leadership development program which will help them improve in areas such as: student organizing partnership building community impact skills This year’s Millennium Fellowship is set to positively impact the lives of more than 978,400 people across the globe. We have 7 amazing alumni reunion years coming up this year. Class officers will be receiving a letter/email asking when you would like to hold your class reunion. If you would like to plan your reunion here on campus during the summer month of June or August, you and your class will be able to have a tour through the campus, and through the dorms. This gives you and your classmates opportunity to see some of the new changes that have been have done, and you will be able to revisit some of your very favorite hangout spots. Things to do when you schedule an on campus reunion: Tour the dorms (see your old room and some of the updates that have been made) Tour the campus (walk through your old classrooms, across the bridge to east campus..) Visit the library (see how it’s grown!) Spend time in the chapel Visit the auditorium Walk through the cafeteria Throw some hoops in the gym Have pictures taken on campus, in a dorm or in the chapel. Bringing Back the Chapel Graduation!

Canyon Chapel in 1955 Who We Are This year has been an exciting year here at Canyonville Academy. There have been many wonderful opportunities here at the school as we have focused on foundation building and focusing on who we are – a College Preparatory Christian Boarding School. It has also been an impactful year for our young people, as we introduced them to ministry and service. Ministry and Service This year, students have had opportunities to take part of the 30 hour famine, raising funds to help against hunger. We had over 30 participants. That is quite a beginning for a first year! Additionally, for Spring break, our students had opportunity to go on a missions trip to San Francisco, California. 19 students signed up to go help feed the hungry, serve in communities and learn more about ministry! You can read more here Graduation Announced Now, as we rapidly approach the end of the school year, we are delighted to announce that our graduation ceremony will be held in the chapel! Did you know that the last graduation to be held in the chapel was the class of 1994? After that, graduations were held in the gym. What a honor and joy commemorating who we are by having this wonderful event in the chapel. You Are Invited We invite alumni to cheer with these fine young people the Class of 2019 as they celebrate their success in a time-honored place where many alumni have stood, and where our foundations were established.
