Ministry and Service This year, students have had opportunities to take part of the 30 hour famine, raising funds to help against hunger. We had over 30 participants.  That is quite a beginning for a first year!  Additionally, for Spring break, our students had opportunity to go on a missions trip to San Francisco, California.  19 students signed up to go help feed the hungry, serve in communities and learn more about ministry!  You can read more here Graduation Announced Now, as we rapidly approach the end of the school year, we are delighted to announce that our graduation ceremony will be held in the chapel!  Did you know that the last graduation to be held in the chapel was the class of 1994?  After that, graduations were held in the gym.  What a honor and joy commemorating who we are by having this wonderful event in the chapel. You Are Invited We invite alumni to cheer with these fine young people the Class of 2019 as they celebrate their success in a time-honored place where many alumni have stood, and where our foundations were established. Please join us at Canyon Chapel June 1, 2019 at 10:00am.

No longer able to eat or drink. The doctor and nurse of hospice sense her time is short. But, of course, we only know God’s timing. Those who have been with her in recent days have been touched and created their own special memories in those moments. Coming to say a short good-bye is welcomed. Our number here at the house is 541-839-4896.”  •Adele & Roger•

Esther Shaffer Update https://www.canyonville.net/esther-shaffer-update/ https://www.canyonville.net/esther-shaffer-update/#respond Sun, 08 Jul 2018 23:02:50 +0000 http://www.ccaalumni.net/?p=2673 ESTHER NEEDS OUR PRAYERS ~ July 4, 2018 Adele asked me to post a note to let you know that Esther’s health is declining rapidly. SHE NEEDS OUR PRAYERS THAT SHE WILL BE PAIN-FREE DURING THIS TIME. She loves Jesus and her family and she loves all of us. Adele shared: “Mom is quickly losing ground. Roger and I are with her 24/7. She has lost her ability to taste so she does not enjoy food at all and only sips liquid. We have her drinking ensure when she is able. She is now on oxygen full-time but still having great trouble breathing, which causes her distress. Each of you, however, know… she is Esther… she could rise tomorrow for another day. Sorry to bring this news on a holiday but it is best we let you know now. We will be keeping you updated. Please do pray as you think of her. She dearly loves you all.” ~ Adele

Seminar Students Attend 3 Ashland Plays https://www.canyonville.net/seminar-students-attend-3-ashland-plays/ https://www.canyonville.net/seminar-students-attend-3-ashland-plays/#respond Sun, 13 Nov 2016 23:47:15 +0000 http://www.ccaalumni.net/?p=2593 The Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland was the site of three plays attended by Canyonville Christian Academy’s seminar classes.  The students attended the plays in Ashland, Oregon at the outdoor Elizabethan Theater during September and October.  The live theatrical productions were Shakespeare’s “Hamlet”, Charles Dickens “Great Expectations” and the Broadway musical “The Wiz”. A Little History The Oregon Shakespeare Festival was inspired by an Ashland drama professor and was inaugurated in 1935 as the “First Annual Oregon Shakespearean Festival”.  There were 2 plays presented that year at the festival, “Twelfth Night” and “The Merchant of Venice”.  The Shakespearean festival has continued ever since; it quickly developed a reputation for quality productions.

First Snow Appears November 15th With Additional Snow in the Forecast https://www.canyonville.net/first-snow-appears-november-15th-additional-snow-forcast/ https://www.canyonville.net/first-snow-appears-november-15th-additional-snow-forcast/#respond Tue, 24 Nov 2015 03:23:32 +0000 http://www.ccaalumni.net/?p=2406 Although none landed on the valley floor, the first snow of the year could be seen on nearby Canyon Mountain on Nov. 15.  The snow was only there for a day, and only at higher elevations, but it was a start. As we start Thanksgiving week, weather updates say that freezing temperatures (17 degrees Fahrenheit or -8.33° Celsius) will be here all week and snow levels are predicted to descend down to 500ft.  This might give us snow on the valley floor for the Thanksgiving Holiday.  We can hope for enough on campus for some snowballs and snowmen as we continue to move into winter.

MayFest Through The Generations… https://www.canyonville.net/mayfest-through-the-generations/ https://www.canyonville.net/mayfest-through-the-generations/#respond Tue, 02 Jun 2015 23:50:38 +0000 http://www.ccaalumni.net/?p=2282 MayFest, It’s A Big Deal! MayFest is the end of the year celebration that celebrates academic awards, a spring choir concert, sometimes solo groups, it has at times included orchestra’s or an art show, and most importantly – the selection of a May Queen and King and their court. It wasn’t always so, as MayFest started back in 1946 with a May Queen and her court but then started including a King in 1986.  Also, MayFest started out by being celebrated in the beginning of May.  Now, it’s celebrated just before graduation. There Are Requirements To Be Met When Selecting A MayFest Court A MayFest Court is not a popularity contest.  It is not a favorites list either.  A MayFest Court is selected by faculty & staff with high achievements in the following: Strong Spiritual values – Christians of the highest character High Academic Achievements Queenly and Kingly attributes – conducting themselves as a King & Queen (but not above others) Follows the ideals of the school MayFest Continues As A Longtime School Tradition Today, MayFest happens the eve of graduation, with a May King and Queen selected each year.  The court consists of a prince and a princess selected from each class.  These have been selected by faculty and staff of Canyonville Christian Academy.  Being selected is quite an honor.
