Brian Mucyo is Thriving In College!

Alumni Brian Mucyo is an ambitious student that has not only done well here at Canyonville Academy, but has blossomed at Grand Canyon University. Brian came to Canyonville in his junior year. While here at the Academy, Brian excelled in his classes and made many friends, whom he is still friends with today. In his senior year at this boarding school, Brian decided to apply to Grand Canyon University, and was blessed with a sponsorship for his tuition. Today, Brian is currently a part of the Honors College and works for the Academic and Career Excellence Center as both a K-12 and College Lead. Additionally, Brian has been developing and implementing an English Empowerment program for kids in Phoenix in the ACE Center. He had noticed that many students knew English, but didn’t have the confidence to express themselves with it. With this discovery, Brian decided he wanted to change this, so he is working on a complete curriculum for developing the skills these children already have. You can read more here. For Brian’s future plans, he has plans to attend law school. Alumni Reunion Date

June 3rd & 4th have been named as the dates for the 2017 Reunion. Activities will get started at 1pm on Saturday June 3rd following the school graduation. All former staff and alumni are welcome. This year we will be honoring the classes of 1947, 1957, 1967, 1977, 1987, 1997 and 2007. There will be no charge for any of the events. We Welcome You Back

Gabriel Martin Leads Pilots at Glide Meet

Going up against 16 schools, Gabriel Martin posted a decisive win in the 200 meter event (23.70) at Glide’s Maynard Mai Invitational track meet April 9. The Canyonville Christian Academy boys finished in a tie for 5th in the final team standings. Other top efforts for the team included a 2:12.24 for 800 meters by Diego Rubi, a 142-3 in the javelin by Samuel Kim, and a 29-1 in the ladies’ triple jump by Esther Cyubahiro. Tennis Team Shines At Cascade Christian

The 2016 Pilot tennis team took on Cascade Christian High School (Medford) and walked away with six wins in the round-robin “friendly” match. Winners for the CCA tennis squad at the April 6 competition included Davy Kayinamura, Simon Mao, Hayden Lui, Brian Ng, Benson Lin, Eun Jin Jang, and Leydy Garcia.

Diana Cox Wife Of Former CBA-CCA Principal-Teacher-Coach

Karolien Celie ’11 Graduates From University of York

Karolien Celie (class of 2011), has graduated from the University of York with a first class honours degree in Social and Political Sciences on July 18, 2015. Karolien’s studies were comprised of a combination of political, sociological, and law modules which have allowed her to develop and expand her critical thinking and writing skills. Karolien has received an offer from the London School of Economics and Political Sciences to pursue a Master (MSc) in Human Rights, which she plans to begin in the Fall of 2016. During her year off Karolien plans to earn some money and gain further experience in the field of human rights. She also plans to master the French language either in Belgium or abroad. During her time at the University of York, Karolien was involved in many extra curricular activities and societies including cheerleading, International Students Association, Social and Political Sciences Society (president 2013-2014), and Making Memories (writing project). Karolien also completed several internships during the summer breaks in between school years, including at the Belgian Federal Public Service of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation in Brussels, and the NGO Medicine, Education and Development for Low Income Families Everywhere (MEDLIFE) in Lima, Peru, where she worked both as a field and office intern. Her achievements outside the classroom have gained her the prestigious York Award, which she received alongside her degree. Congratulations Karolien!

Tim Chen ’11

Canyonville Christian Academy alumni Tim Chen from class of 2011 has now graduated from the University of Oregon. Tim graduated June 15th with a major in Business Administration with a marketing concentration. He will be staying here in the States looking for jobs then would like to go to England for higher education. Tim came to CCA from Taipei, Taiwan. Congratulations Tim!

Muriel Cornelius King Elsey ’40 is the author of a new book titled “Simple Sermons From My Kitchen Table”. Muriel is nearly 93 years old and has served as a missionary to Native Indians in Canada and Alaska, was a pastor’s wife, and currently holds services at a senior retirement home in Forest Grove, Oregon. High School Senior Breaks Long-Standing Record

The all-time Canyonville Christian Academy record in the girls’ triple jump fell to Sasha Eck, a senior, at the May 8 Oakland Twilight meet. Her mark of 32-0 bested the old standard of 31-6.5 set by Cori Henderson in 1995. Other top Pilot efforts at the 10-school competition included a 1st in the 100m dash by Gabriel Martin (11.46), 2nd in the 1500m run by Diego Rubio (4:34.91), 2nd in the girls’ 400m relay (54.30), and a 2nd in the long jump by Samuel Kim (19-5). Congratulations Sasha! Next up for CCA’s track teams is the district championship meet May 16 at Oakridge High School.
