What is your favorite or most important subject.

Become an expert in that area. Read everything in the field that matters. Know everything about that field.

Consider taking all course material in the subject including non-standard venues (online, DVD, and conferences).  Keep with the current thinking and material in the field.  That includes viewpoints with which you might disagree.

Knowing everything may open doors for you.  But if not, you will have a really good time following a path that you enjoy.
