Students Attend Russian Opera!

A group of 14 Canyonville students and staff attended the March 11 opera performance of Pytor I. Tchaikovsky’s “Eugene Onegin”. This live presentation by Eugene Opera of the 19th century classic tragic love story was sung in Russian. The next planned cultural event for the seminar students is a trip to an NBA basketball game on March 28.

Record-Breaking Track Team Opens Season

With over 60 sthletes, believed to be the largest turnout in school history, the 2016 edition of the Canyonville Christian Academy track team got the campaign started by competing at the Match 14 Crusader Relays sponsored by St. Mary’s of Medford. Best efforts by the Pilots included a 2nd place finish in the boys’ distance medley relay (12:07.3) and runner-up honors by Samuel Kim in the long jump. Head coach for the boys’ and girls’ teams is Cathy Lovato.

Canyonville Christian Academy Jumpers Capture State Medal

Two Pilot senior jumpers brought home medals from the 2015 OSAA Oregon State Championship Track Meet May 21 and 22. For the boys, Ivan Sandrali jumped 39-6 3/4 for sixth, while Sasha Eck posted a girls mark of 32-0 for 7th in the Class 2A competition. The best CCA efforts on the track were Gabriel Martin in tthe 100m and 200m dashes (11.76 and 23.72, fully auto timed), but he fell just short of making the finals in his events. Congratulations!

Track Team Qualifies 7 For State Meet

Canyonville Christian Academy qualified athletes in four field events at the 2015 Mountain View Conference Meet held on May 16th, for the coming state championship meet at famed Hayward Field on the University of Oregon campus. Senior Sasha Eck added another six inches to her school record in the triple jump with a qualifying mark of 32-6. The other Pilot state meet competitors will include: Mahli Beltran (long jump) Ivan Sandrali (long and triple jumps), Gabriel Martin (100m and 200m), Samuel Kim (javelin), and the girls’ 400m relay team.

High School Senior Breaks Long-Standing Record

The all-time Canyonville Christian Academy record in the girls’ triple jump fell to Sasha Eck, a senior, at the May 8 Oakland Twilight meet. Her mark of 32-0 bested the old standard of 31-6.5 set by Cori Henderson in 1995. Other top Pilot efforts at the 10-school competition included a 1st in the 100m dash by Gabriel Martin (11.46), 2nd in the 1500m run by Diego Rubio (4:34.91), 2nd in the girls’ 400m relay (54.30), and a 2nd in the long jump by Samuel Kim (19-5). Congratulations Sasha! Next up for CCA’s track teams is the district championship meet May 16 at Oakridge High School.

Pilots Finish Close 2nd At Crow Track Meet

Canyonville Christian Academy‘s boys’ track team placed second at the Crow Cinder Track Meet April 23, just 10 points (158 to 148) behind the Crow Cougars. Eight schools were entered in the competition. The boys collected wins in four of the events (100m – Garbriel Martin, 3000m – Denis Gavrinyuk, long and triple jumps – both Samuel Kim), while the girls got a first place finish in the 400m relay and a fourth place in the team standings.

PILOTS WIN 4-WAY AT RIDDLE

The Canyonville Christian Academy boys’ track team won six of the eight flat running events on their way to a first place team finish at the Riddle High School meet April 16. The Pilots edged Riddle in the team standings 177-162 with Days Creek and Glendale trailing. In addition to dominating the boys’ running events, the Pilots also got wins in both the boys’ and girls’ long jump competition. On April 19 the CCA track teams traveled to the University of Oregon to see the national champion Oregon Duck in action.

PILOTS CAPTURE FOUR EVENTS AT OAKRIDGE MEET

Gabriel Martin won bot sprints (100m, 200m) at the April 9 eight-way conference meet at Oakridge. Event victories were also captured by Sebastian Fajardo (800m) and Sasha Eck (triple jump). At the Saturday April 11 24-school invitational track meet at Glide, CCA distance runners Caleb Reimers (2:14/800m) and Diego Rubio (4:45/1500m) recorded the best times in their events by any CCA runners in eight years.

MARTIN LEADS CCA RUNNERS AT DOUGLAS MEET

Gabriel Martin recorded quality early season marks of 11.57/100m and 23.94/200m for a first (tie) and a 2nd place finish at a 19-team invitational on April 4. Other top marks for Canyonville Christian Academy included a 28.72/200m by Mahli Beltran and a time of 4:48.0/1500m by Diego Rubio.

In the girls’ competition, Pilot 1st place finishers were Mahli Beltran (long jump) and Sasha Eck (triple jump).
