The Pilots defeated Milo Academy 61-44 in the campaign opener and got their second win over Butte Falls 38-33.  The lone loss was to the Cascade Christian JVs 36-41 in the championship game of the CCA Invitational Tournament.  Ivan Sandrali anchors the boys on offense with an 18.7 points per game average. Canyonville Christian Academy’s girls’ basketball squad also collected two wins in the first week.   Both victories came at the expense of the Glendale Pirates (44-15, 35-21) but the Pilot gals came up short against Butte Falls by the score of 17-27.

In the consolation bracket, International Private High School CCA also suffered a 10 point loss to Central Linn, 64-54.  After a slow start, the Pilots closed to within one point in the fourth quarter but could not get the lead against the Cobras. The Eastern Oregonian titled their article:  The Canyonville Christian basketball team is multinational and multilingual.   Here’s an excerpt of that article. Basketball coach Noel Schaak has a flair for turning players with zero experience and a loose grasp on the English language into seasoned athletes.  Schaak’s team at Canyonville Christian Academy has a roster of 12 international players from the Ukraine, Rwanda, Hong Kong and South Korea. Though the team usually has local boys, too, this year it doesn’t. The boys team ended the season with a 17-8 record.
