Cross Country Boys Place 5th At District Meet

CCA’s cross country team finished the season by placing in the top-five out of 14 schools in the 2015 District 6 (3A/2A/1A) championship meet. Top finishers in the 5,000 meter race for the Pilots were Diego Rubio (18:36 in 14th place) and Calob Reimer (18:49 in 17th place). 115 runners entered the competition. Congratulations PILOTS!

Soccer Team Tops Rogue River

Canyonville Christian Academy’s soccer team posted a comfortable 7-2 win over the Rogue River Chieftans October 7. The soccer victory moved the Pilots into a tie for the number-three ranking in league play and improved on a one-point win over Rogue River earlier in the season. In other sports action, Canyonville Christian Academy’s volleyball girls got a 25-21 win over Riddle in game two of their October 6 match. Hower, the Riddle Irish won the match by a 3-1 score. Caleb Reimer led the cross country team at the Regis/Stayton Invitational with a time of 18:50 on October 1. Reimer was 31st in the varsity field of nearly 200 runners with the best mark by a Pilot runner this season.

CCA’s boys’ soccer team opened the 2015 campaign with a 4-4 tie against Milo Adventist Academy. The Pilots, who have had only a week of practice time, faded after holding a 3-1 halftime advantage in this non-league home match. The cross country team entered their first competition on Sept. 3 against eight schools at the Umpqua Invitational sponsored by 6A Roseburg High School. Top finishers for the CCA runners were Diego Rubi and Denis Gavrinyuk. School’s Board Suspends Cross Country

After struggling to field full teams for a number of years, Canyonville Christian Academy’s board voted to suspend the sport of cross country. Since 1962, the Pilots have won 29 district championships and sent more than 40 teams to state. The school had five individual state champs (Bill Castro, Mike Mason, Rose Gilbert, Mike Webster and Matt Knight) and won the Oregon state team title four times (boys: 1977 & 1992; girls: 1970 & 1998).

Cross Country Outing

CCA’s cross country runners traveled to Corvallis to attend an NCAA Division I football Game between Oregon State and UCLA on September 24th. The PAC-12 contest was won by UCLA before a crowd of 44,000.
