Alumni Reunion Date

June 3rd & 4th have been named as the dates for the 2017 Reunion. Activities will get started at 1pm on Saturday June 3rd following the school graduation. All former staff and alumni are welcome. This year we will be honoring the classes of 1947, 1957, 1967, 1977, 1987, 1997 and 2007. There will be no charge for any of the events. We Welcome You Back

Seminar Students Attend 3 Ashland Plays

The Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland was the site of three plays attended by Canyonville Christian Academy’s seminar classes. The students attended the plays in Ashland, Oregon at the outdoor Elizabethan Theater during September and October. The live theatrical productions were Shakespeare’s “Hamlet”, Charles Dickens “Great Expectations” and the Broadway musical “The Wiz”. A Little History The Oregon Shakespeare Festival was inspired by an Ashland drama professor and was inaugurated in 1935 as the “First Annual Oregon Shakespearean Festival”. There were 2 plays presented that year at the festival, “Twelfth Night” and “The Merchant of Venice”. The Shakespearean festival has continued ever since; it quickly developed a reputation for quality productions.

Tennis Team Headed for District Playoffs

Canyonville Christian Academy’s boys’ and girls’ tennis teams will be heading into their respective district tournaments starting on May 9 (boys) and May 12 (girls). Team members will be competing for spots in the May 20-21 OSAA state championships. The tennis team is coached by Brian Fye.

Track Team Wins 5-Way Meet at Oakland

CCA’s boys collected 161.5 points for the win over the host Oakland Oakers and three other track teams April 14. The Pilots won eight events including all the flat races under 3,000 meters. The best events for Canyonville were the long jump with a 1-2 finish by Gabriel Martin (20-0) and Samuel Kim (19-8.5) and the 1600 meter relay which the runners won by over 13 seconds. The girls were led to a third place team finish by Esther Cyubahiro with a win in the triple Jump.

Pilots Take Second at Reedsport Invitational

With some of our leading runners missing the meet, Canyonville Christian Academy’s boys’ track team finished second to Pacific High School at the Jack Blum Invitational in Reedsport April 20. Seven schools attended the meet. Top finishers for the Pilots were Calob Reimer (1st in 800 meters and 2nd in the 400 meter run with a time of 53.85) and Diego Rubi (1st in the 1500 meter run 2nd in the 800 meter run). Tyler Mercier came in 3rd in the 300m hurdles. Also, the boys 4×100 relay came in 3rd (Victor Gulyaev, Yannick Sesonga, Max Ng, Destin Musonin) with a time of 50.96. Additionally, in the 4×400 Relay, the boys team took 2nd place with a time of 4:09.20. (Kelly Kamanzi, Nathaniel Bates, Oscar Gutierrez, Tyler Mercier) For the girls, Esther Cyubahiro took 2nd n the Triple Jump at 29-04.00 The next meet on the schedule is the South Umpqua Twilight April 29

Students Visit Los Angeles Art Museums

Students of Canyonville Christian Academy’s seminar class traveled to Los Angeles April 15-18 to view the art collections at the Getty and Norton Simon museums. Highlights of the tour included a large number of important work by Van Gogh, Monet, Picasso, and Rembrandt. The 4-day trip also included time at Yosemite National Park, one of the very top natural wonders in the United States.

Gabriel Martin Leads Pilots at Glide Meet

Going up against 16 schools, Gabriel Martin posted a decisive win in the 200 meter event (23.70) at Glide’s Maynard Mai Invitational track meet April 9. The Canyonville Christian Academy boys finished in a tie for 5th in the final team standings. Other top efforts for the team included a 2:12.24 for 800 meters by Diego Rubi, a 142-3 in the javelin by Samuel Kim, and a 29-1 in the ladies’ triple jump by Esther Cyubahiro.
