BREAKING NEWS: DAD SHAFFER ELECTED MAYOR TWICE

Working with a curator at the Canyonville Pioneer Museum, CCA has now uncovered city records that show A.M. “Dad” Shaffer, the founder of the school, was first elected mayor of Canyonville in 1926.

He ran successfully for a second term in 1941 but in a 1948 race, he fell 40 votes short of winning a 3rd term.

City Council minutes of 1926 show that Rev. Shaffer was instrumental in bringing electricity to the town. The 1926 date would indicate that CCA and the church pastored by Dad Shaffer both operated with kerosene lanterns for light during there first two years.
