Bringing Back the Chapel Graduation!

Canyon Chapel in 1955 Who We Are This year has been an exciting year here at Canyonville Academy. There have been many wonderful opportunities here at the school as we have focused on foundation building and focusing on who we are – a College Preparatory Christian Boarding School. It has also been an impactful year for our young people, as we introduced them to ministry and service. Ministry and Service This year, students have had opportunities to take part of the 30 hour famine, raising funds to help against hunger. We had over 30 participants. That is quite a beginning for a first year! Additionally, for Spring break, our students had opportunity to go on a missions trip to San Francisco, California. 19 students signed up to go help feed the hungry, serve in communities and learn more about ministry! You can read more here Graduation Announced Now, as we rapidly approach the end of the school year, we are delighted to announce that our graduation ceremony will be held in the chapel! Did you know that the last graduation to be held in the chapel was the class of 1994? After that, graduations were held in the gym. What a honor and joy commemorating who we are by having this wonderful event in the chapel. You Are Invited We invite alumni to cheer with these fine young people the Class of 2019 as they celebrate their success in a time-honored place where many alumni have stood, and where our foundations were established. Alumni Activities 2018

Our alumni association is pleased to announce a series of events this coming Spring. Make your plans now to join us and see your old classmates and friends. May 16, 2018: Dan Johnson, CCA alumni from class of 1958, Toledo University Provost, will be briefing students, staff and alumni on our new CCA Strategic Plan – “Preparing for Our Second Century”. There will be two sessions from 2:30 – 3:30 pm and then at 3:30 – 4:30 pm. June 2, 2018: Ed John, class of 1964, former West Salem High School Principal, former Chemawa Indian School Principal, current Board Member, CCA Athletic award winner, will be speaking at our graduation. Graduation begins at 10:10am. After graduation join a luncheon reception with CCA president, Doug Wead (Class of 1964) and CCA Secretary – Board member, Roger Shaffer (Class of 1963), Carol “Pfau” John (Class of 1964) and many other alumni friends. Alumni – Board Meeting, teachers and parents invited: 7pm. In the early evening President Wead will make a formal presentation of the CCA Strategic Plan approved by the Board of Directors. All alumni will be invited to share in this moment and to participate in a discussion about the future of CCA. Alumni – fellowship. 8 pm on. Join an informal open forum discussion with other Alumni. Share stories about the past with old friends. Sing old songs. June 3, 2018: Enjoy an informal morning worship service in the CCA Chapel.

Alumni Reunion Date

June 3rd & 4th have been named as the dates for the 2017 Reunion. Activities will get started at 1pm on Saturday June 3rd following the school graduation. All former staff and alumni are welcome. This year we will be honoring the classes of 1947, 1957, 1967, 1977, 1987, 1997 and 2007. There will be no charge for any of the events. We Welcome You Back

SEMINAR STUDENTS ATTEND TRIO OF EVENTS

February travels for seminar class have included a night at the Eugene Symphony featuring a Rachmaninov piano concerto and attendance at simulcast New York Met Opera presented on- screen. Class members will also be able to watch an in-theater presentation February 24 on the life and works of Rembrandt, the 17th century Dutch painter.

PILOTS DUO SCORES 37 IN SEASON FINALE

Two senior boys, Ivan Sandrali and Jeremie Munyakazi, totaled 37 points in the final basketball game of the 2014-15 campaign but the team fell short (56-64) of a win. Playoff bound Lost River had to overcome a half-time deficit to catch the Canyonville Christian Academy boys and also held a 25-6 advantage at the free throw line.

HOMECOMING KING & QUEEN CROWNED

Ivan Sandrali and Mahli Beltran were honored as 2015 Homecoming King and Queen of Canyonville Christian Academy at the halftime of the varsity boys’ basketball game February 13. These honors awarded on the basis of the votes of the student body. The Pilot boys fell short by a score of 55-44 in the Homecoming game against Bonanza while the girls continue to look for their first win in league play. In the game, the Pilots jumped out to an early lead and made a run at the Antlers in the final quarter but CCA couldn’t catch their opponents in the closing minutes.

HOMECOMING GAMES SET FOR FEBRUARY 13

Canyonville Christian Academy‘s basketball teams will take on the Bonanza Antlers in Mountain View Conference match-ups on Friday February 13. Action will get underway at 4:430 for the JVs, followed by the varsity contests beginning at 6:00. Senior Night and the last games of the season will be played on Tuesday February 17 with the Pilots matched against the Lost River Raiders.

SEMINAR CLASS SET TO DEFEND NATIONAL STOCK GAME TITLE

The 2015 Capitol Hill Challenge, a competition open to all U.S. high schools, got underway Feb. 2 and will run through May 8. Canyonville Christian Academy‘s seminar class students finished number-one out of over 4,000 entries in 2014. In the internet investing simulation game, students are given $100,000 to invest and real time stock bond, ETF, and mutual fund prices are used. Teams placing in the top-10 in the nation get an all-expense paid trip to tour Washington, DC, meet with their senators and representatives, and attend various award programs and seminars. CCA’s students won Washington trips in 2013 and 2014.

CCA/CBA 2015 Alumni Reunion Date Set

May 30 & 31 have been named as the dates for the 2015 Canyonville Christian Academy Alumni Reunion. Activities will get underway at 1 p.m. on Saturday the 30th following the school graduation. A banquet will follow on Saturday evening with a brunch and chapel winding up events on Sunday the 31st. CCA particularly welcomes students from the “10-Year Classes” (1945, 1955, 1965, 1975, 1985, 1995, 2005), but all alumni and former staff are welcome at reunions. There will be no charge for any of the events.
