The 2012 Seniors and Mayfest group

On June 1, 2013 the 2012-2013 school year came to an end with an emotional graduation ceremony. The Robert Shaffer gymnasium was filled with students, friends and family from various parts of the world. Head of school, Cathy Lovato introduced the boarding school staff and faculty. Graduating senior Richard Huang welcomed the guests with his Salutatorian address. Following Valedictorian, Bella Wang gave a great speech to her fellow classmates. Canyonville Christian Academy’s president, Doug Wead, was our commencement speaker and as usual, gave a motivating speech to our graduates. The senior letters, read by Mrs. Stenberg and Mr. Lovato were emotional and caused a lot of people to cry. Seniors took flowers to their parents or a faculty member as a letter of appreciation was read. This was a great end to a great school year. Congratulations to the class of 2013!!

Donkey Basketball Fun

Canyonville Christian Academy private boarding high school

Private boarding school Canyonville Christian Academy activities department decided to make the game of basketball a little more interesting.

A group of donkeys were invited as special guests allowing our students to ride them while playing a game of basketball. As the donkeys were brought in by their riders, shouts of laughter could be heard in the gymnasium as one of our students Serge Sandrali, laughing himself, tried to “guide” his donkey into center court.

For about an hour and half, the girls challenged the boys to a basketball game played while trying to commandeer a stubborn donkey and make a basket from it’s back. In the end, it was the Varsity boys basketball team, with their competitive edge that ended up winning the night’s game of fun donkey basketball.

The admissions department at Canyonville Christian Academy is hard at work processing the student applications that are arriving daily. The latest update is that CCA will continue to accept applications on a “space available” basis. Right now is still a good time to download your application from the Admissions page and send it in to our admissions office. We have room for both boys and girls. April Happenings

Spring break flew by for Canyonville Christian Academy students and teachers.

Everyone had a good time going different places and doing different things. This year, there were two separate trips. One large group flew to Los Angeles and enjoyed places like Disneyland, California Adventure, food, shopping, the beach, etc. Another group enjoyed a quieter time at Shelter Cove in Humboldt County, California which was relaxing and enjoying home cooked meals by Mrs. Botsford and Ms. DeLisle and the beautiful black sands beach. They then drove through the California wine country down Hwy. 101 to go to Six Flags theme park near San Francisco, California.

Students are now back and ready for the final two months of school.

We start April off with “Spiritual Emphasis Week” with former teacher Dave Nickodemus as our guest speaker. He was always a favorite teacher for many students and will surely have a lot to say to our students.

Spring break is in the air!

The weather is warming up with a lot more sunny days here in Oregon. Track season has started here at this boarding school and these high school students are getting into competitive condition every day after school. Tennis players are also working hard on the tennis courts to see how far they can make it this season.

For spring break, many of our students are flying to Los Angeles to go to Disney Land, California Adventure, the beach and other area attractions. I’m sure they will go to a mall or two for some serious shopping!

Spirit Week ended with the Canyonville Christian Academy Pilots winning their last home basket ball game. For the seniors here at the Christian Academy, it was a bitter sweet time since it was their last game in the Robert Shaffer gymnasium with faculty and friends cheering them on.

The student body voted for their favorite classmates for homecoming court who represented seven different countries. During half time of the homecoming game, the princes and princesses walked out into the gym. Cheers were echoed all through the gym. Joe Chen was announced as King and Mafe Raad was crowned as the 2013 Homecoming Queen. The whole homecoming court looked beautiful.

Canyonville Christian Academy was named prominently in a January 23, 2013 Wall Street Journal story on international students* in U.S. high school. The WSJ is the number-one selling newspaper in America.

The large page-three feature story indicated that in many countries both private and parochial American high schools are seen as an excellent pathway for admissions to U.S. colleges. It was also noted that many Asian parents and students look favorably on Christian schools‘ conservative social values which mirror many traditional Asian morals.

Coaches Mike Stansberry and Eric Payne pose with the 2012 District Championship trophy for the Canyonville Christian Academy soccer season. We are all so proud of our coaches and the CCA Pilots soccer team.

Canyonville Christian Academy’s soccer team played their best-ever season with a one-goal loss to Delphian School in the opening round of the OSAA state playoffs.

The 2012 Pilots posted an incredible 8-2 season record, won the district championship, and gave up just seven goals for the season.
