Why Boarding School Has Become So Important!

Both public and private schools have advantages, however there are many definite differences between the two.  Differences in private and public school can be outlined with four main topics; cost, admissions, governance, and curriculum.

The difference in cost is a very shocking difference between the two.  Public schools on one hand cannot charge tuition.  They are funded completely through federal, state, and local taxes.  Private schools on the other hand charge tuition, and use fund-raising, donations and private grants to function.  The Digest of Education Statistics 2005 from the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) reports that for the 1999-2000 school year, the average private school tuition was about $4,700. One must remember however, although there is a cost for private schools you are paying for a more focused education that is specially picked especially for your child.

Admissions is also a difference in private and public schools. By law public schools must admit all children.  In order to enroll your child you must fill out necessary paperwork.  As a result of public schools educating all children, there are inevitably a vast range of learning levels which causes less specified attention for every student.  In Private schools admission is selective and often very competitive. According to a longitudinal study analyzing statistics on private and public schools attendance at University of Michigan in 2008 there were definite differences between the results of students.  Out of the study group there were 76% public and 24% private students.  Of the public school students there were 72% that graduated high school and 28% that did not.

Of the students that graduated public high school 65% attended college,  and 79% of private school students went to college.  Of the 65% that attended college only 36% received a bachelors degree or higher.  However, of the 79% graduated private schools, 52% received a bachelors degree or higher.

As a result of this study one can see that there is a measurable difference in the statistics on private and public schools attendance.  One could conclude that there is definitely a higher rate of private school students who actually attain a degree.

When we talk about “private schools” we are usually talking about grade schools or high schools for young people in their teens.  The latter include neighborhood places of learning, founded by churches, secular, so called, “magnet schools” for gifted children, and finally boarding schools with years of tradition and experience.

1.) The student will likely get a better education.

In a private school the reverse is the case.  A troublesome student upsets teachers and fellow students and can cause others to drop out if he or she is not expelled immediately.  Parents are suddenly involved.  They have paid money for their son or daughter to attend the school in question and they will become more insistent in assuring that their child cooperate.
5.) Students from private schools are more likely to graduate from a university and with better grades.
Again.  Nothing can be assumed and much depends on the particular school you attend but in general, private school students are more likely to advance their education at the university level.  This is often because they are forced to develop study habits in the private school setting, especially at the boarding school where peer pressure and dorm rules require completion of home work.
6.) Private schools are safer. 
They have a better safety record over public schools.  This may be in part because of stricter private insurance requirements that public schools do not need to fulfill.

The benefits of boarding schools for children is that it instills a great sense of discipline in them.  In a boarding school there is a set routine for every single day of the week.  Each day includes a balanced diet of exercise, academics, and social interaction.  This atmosphere creates adults that are self disciplined with healthy habits.

Another benefit of boarding schools is that students are constantly in an atmosphere conducive with studying so that there are never distractions to keep from academic success.  Students also often become very independent as a result of the atmosphere at boarding schools.  At home there is a protective shield from parents, but at boarding schools children are required to be independent creating adults who are bold and fearless.
